The flower for the American Germander is well designed for bees and is a valuable honey plant when abundant. Prairie chickens will eat the nutlets. Colonies of this native flower spread by rhizomes. The leaves of the American Germander were used in tea to induce sweating. The plant was also used to treat lung ailments and intestinal worms. It can be found in the moist soils of low woods, prairies, ditches, pastures, and roadsides.
