| The Oregon Trail chapter in Scotts Bluff County was formed in 1989. Josh currently serves as the chapter President, and has been serving as the chapter’s President since 2007. Before he was president, Josh served as a chapter volunteer helping plan the annual banquet, Youth Mentor Hunt and working on management activities on the properties around Scottsbluff. |
The Oregon Trail chapter has spent over $667,000 on 1,681 habitat projects (37,628 total acres) since its inception. In 2008, the chapter spent over $21,000 and worked on projects that benefited over 2,800 acres.
In the last few years, the Oregon Trail chapter has been working with Platte River Basin Environments Inc., contributing nearly a quarter million dollars to purchase biologically unique property in Western Nebraska. In fact, the chapter has been involved with 6 acquisitions totaling over 18,500 acres that will be open to public access for all outdoor enthusiast.
Not only has the chapter financially supported land acquisition projects in their area, but they have also logged thousands of hours on these properties planting trees, shrubs, grass, food plots, spraying noxious weeds, and fixing fence. On one property alone, the chapter has planted over 10,000 native trees and shrubs to help improve the wildlife value of the property.
Josh’s chapter financially supports a number of state-wide and national habitat programs that benefit wildlife, landowners and outdoorsman throughout Nebraska. Habitat programs include: The Lake Wanahoo Project, Bill Baxter Scholarship Fund, Legislative Action Fund, CRP-MAP, Corners For Wildlife, and the State Habitat Raffle.
Josh is a Farm Bureau Insurance Agent and resides in Gering with his wife Georgette who also spends a great deal of time volunteering her talents to support the Oregon Trail chapter. Josh is an avid hunter and enjoys spending time in the field with his father and his two hunting companions Teva and Grace. Josh brings a great deal of passion and enthusiasm to his Pheasants Forever Chapter which is evident in the recent accomplishments of the Oregon Trail Chapter.
