| On August 8th, 2009, the Bazile Creek chapter of Pheasants Forever held the first outdoor family event in the state of Nebraska. Outdoor Families Exploring Nature Together is partnership between the Nebraska Games & Parks Commission and Nebraska Pheasants Forever. The purpose of this unique one day free event is to expose Nebraskans, both young and old alike, to the wonderful adventures of the great outdoors. The event attracted 127 families from Creighton and surrounding areas as far away as 75 miles. Don Henery, the Bazile Creek PF chapter's youth chairman, Ruth Fulton, and 49 other chapter members worked for three months to prepare for this event. They had 32 corporate sponsors come aboard to help open the doors to families to explore what nature has to offer, many for the very first time. Don and Ruth stated that the hard work and time spent was well worth being able to experience the smiles on the young kids faces, seeing and learning new things about the outdoors. The Bazile Creek PF chapter is leading the way and exposing more families and kids to the outdoors; for that they are our Hero of the Month. |
