Pheasants are one of the most eye-catching game birds, but have youever thought about them as art? Rajaena Appleby, of Papillion, has. Sheuses pheasant feather as her medium to create beautiful and uniqueworks of art.
"It was my mother that sparked my interest in doing something likethis”, said Appleby. "She made hat bands and made a pheasant feathervest for herself. I started making broaches. In the last four years Ibegan working with framed art. It is so relaxing and they are sobeautiful, that's what keeps me going."
"I had known about Pheasants Forever and know they have been around foryears", Appleby continued. "I saw an ad in the newspaper for PheasantFest and that gave me an idea.
Appleby's idea was to figure out a way to give something back topheasant hunting in Nebraska. She spotted article on-line for NebraskaPheasants Forever Reload Nebraska program. She has pledged to give 5percent of the money made through sales of her art to NebraskaPheasant Forever.
“I realized that Reload Nebraska was for creating better pheasanthunting and helping local economies. That is what drew me to theprogram and it provides me a way to help my state.”
